Who are DAG?

DAG has been in existence since the 1970's. It was formed by a group of friends who used to take young people on adventure weekends but wanted also to share the simple enjoyment of the hills and mountains with other like-minded people.

DAG is an Affiliated Club member of the The British Mountaineering Council (BMC) with around sixty members.

DAG organises a weekend away each month during the 'season' which normally runs from September to June or July, visiting such exotic places as Snowdonia, the Lake District, the Brecon Beacons, Yorkshire Dales, the Peak District and Dartmoor. We hire centres that provide simple dormitory style, self-catering accommodation for between 20 to 40 people. Catering is undertaken by group members, a number of whom volunteer to take responsibility for a particular weekend. In this way we can keep the cost of a weekend within everyone's pocket.

The type of accommodation used and the type of walks that are undertaken means that DAG weekends are primarily for adults but we do welcome children with their parents or relatives on specific weekends.

If you want to bring children it is always advisable to check with a member of the committee about the suitability of a particular weekend.

Any member can suggest a route, each individual thus chooses the walk that he/she wants to do. Walks suggested on each weekend vary from 5 miles to 20 miles, some flattish but others more mountainous. The more difficult walks can also include some scrambling and exposed sections so require a good basic level of fitness.
