Report on the Weekend
This was an interesting weekend, because we found out late that as DAG could not fill the centre, we had to share it with a group of university students from Sheffield University. We initially thought that there would be problems cooking the meals, but all our fears and no doubt theirs vanished, when we discovered that they stay in bed a lot longer than DAG members, (hard to believe but true), and they eat earlier in the evening, not too hard because DAG have a mandatory pub stop before dinner. They were very friendly and we had a good laugh with them. They weather to put it mildly was terrible on Friday night and early Saturday morning, high winds and driving rain, I had visions of staying in bed all day Saturday, but at 09:15 am we could see the coast and there appeared to be odd breaks in the cloud. Given the change in the weather, some members went up Snowdon from the centre, some drove to Llanberis and followed the railway line, others went over to Llyn Ogwen. Two members went with the dog to Newborough Warren and encountered brillant sunshine, had lunch in the pub at Malltreath and then went back to Aber Falls beach to see a variety of birds, little egrets plus kingfishers. Great photos were obtained before returning to the centre. At the centre, the members who were interested had a preview of the new website, plus the photos on laptops. Dinner was excellent with a member at my table having four helpings. After dinner, a group made their way to the pub in Llanrug, for the odd pint or two. It turned out to be a great weekend in the end. |
