OS map: Outdooor Leisure Map 17 Snowdonia - Eryri Grid ref: 626 511 Near Beddgelert on the A498 From A5 turn off at Capel Curig on to A4086 then A498 to Beddgelert. After passing Bryn Gwynant Youth Hostel on left about 1 mile ahead there is a car park on your left. Just past this car park on the right hand side there is an opening in the stone wall with a direction sign to camp site. Follow this track straight ahead until you reach the white building on your right hand side. Just past the building is the entrance to HSC car park to your left. If you have been there in June, a December visit is different, the snow should be lying on the top of Snowdon, blizzards, and a great Christmas Party in prospect! For new members though, this is a first class centre owned by Hertfordshire County Council and maintained to a very high standard, like great beds, washing facilities, plenty of common areas and very good drying facilities. Beware, the light switch and the fire-alarm are right next to each other in the drying room and can cause a hell of a racket! You have been warned. This centre also boasts an excellent commercial standard gas cooker which allows members to express their cooking skills to the full. It is a brillant centre for a Christmas Party! The centre is at the start of the Watkins Path up Snowdon. As Christmas Dinner is included, the cost for this weekend will be £5 more than usual. Oh, and bring a low cost gift for the party (rough guidelines £3 to £5 - wrapped of course!), otherwise Santa will not visit the centre that night...sniff sniff ... |
